Woo! That's two!

It's merely coincidence that this strip comes on the heels of the second to last entry.... but it's a nice prep.

24!

For the record, I was able to go 24 hours without talking to John about comics, despite the fact that the not-so-local comic shop (the one near New Brunswick) is having a back-issue sale (whee!) and this occurred....

Robins through the years.

John and I decided to bring you, in art form, the last two Robins, Tim Drake and Stephanie Brown. Medium is, as usual, crayons on Friendly's placemat. (sorry so large.)

Words of love...

So there are words that have solid meanings. Most of us know what like, I dunno, a bottle is. Or a clock. Or concepts like big, hot, short mean. Actual numbers for actual measurements may vary, but if I said something is very big, most people would understand, basically, what I'm saying. And then there are words that, sure, have a definition in the dictionary....but may not be that solid. "Sport" is a big one. Some people think that if a game doesn't involve at least one ball, it's not a sport. By this logic, bowling is a sport. One of my coworkers defines a sport as something you need to be in top physical condition to play. By this definition, ballroom dance is a sport. Personally, I think of a sport more as a competition where one team/player can fairly affect the score of another team/player (so yes, I do think football is a sport, and ballroom dance is not). So that's what I mean when I say it doesn't have a real solid meaning - it means different things to different people.

Another biggie is intelligence. There are sooo many ways to measure intelligence. I prefer the problem-solving route myself and the ability to find patterns (I could be biased by my love of patterns and my joy at noticing them), but this means that, through informal observation and testing, my most intelligent friend is one who didn't graduate college, and is smarter than me. What?! Screw that. I like to think that all my friends are pretty intelligent, and I'm hoping I'm just as smart as any of them. And if one person is really good at problem solving, but can't memorize information quickly, should I assume that person's smarter than another who's a little slow at reasoning out problems, but can absorb information and trivia like a sponge? I don't think so. I'm thinking both are indications of intelligence. The ability to learn something, and the ability to apply it. Two sides to the same coin and stuff.

I...I just don't get making fun of someone for not knowing certain facts, however obvious they may seem to you. I rag on my friends (sometimes I think maybe too much, yah, sorry) for being ditzy, in the same way I expect them to rag on me for being ditzy (I have to make strange arm motions before being able to tell my left from right). I wouldn't, however, rag on them for not knowing where the sternocleidomastoid was, or which codon signals the start of translation (and which amino acid is the result of said codon), or which of my favorite animals is a xiphosurid, cause dude. I studied this crap for five years. I'd better goddamn know more than them.

So veiled insults against a person's intelligence just because they don't know of a certain author/artist/film actor/history fact/scientific process? Not cool. Seriously, find a way to insult me that will make me respect you, and hear your complaint against my brain as a valid point instead.

....and no, this isn't actually against anyone who I know reads this, cause god knows I make fun of my friends too much already (it's because I care, guys, really)....I'm just pissed.

I also broke a car today.

Quick, Kaitlin's thoughts, scatter!

And yes, I did freely admit to one of my students yesterday that Mark Waid is my god. In comics news, I will update Comicology this weekend. Honestly. School is over (I still need to pick up my final exam - I got home and was like, "shit! I screwed up number 4!" which was the base for questions 5, 6, and 7, so I want to see how that got graded.), during the summers at work, we're allowed to work 2.5 hours less a week than in the full terms, and there's no hectic dance team meeting thrice a week, so there's really no excuse for me not keeping up with it. Cept for the fact that DC got all screwy last month with the scheduling. But it looks like it's back to normal.

In other slightly comic news, I'll also be trying to update that webcomic I posted one of weeks ago. John's offered to set up a space for it, so yay. I've realized that most of them aren't actually going to be funny. But I don't care. And you can't make them.

Saw I, Robot. Poor John. It was no Spider-man 2, but I kinda liked it. There were some points where I neither knew not cared what was going on, but whatever. And yeah, there were some points where I was pretending it was Spider-man 2, but whatever. I might rent it when it comes out.
